Yusmarg is a broad meadow in the Budgam district, surrounded by pine and fir forest with the Pir Panjal range behind it. It sees far fewer visitors than Gulmarg or Pahalgam, which is most of its appeal.
It suits travellers who have already seen the main circuit, or who simply want an unhurried day outdoors.
The name is often translated as “Meadow of Jesus”, after a local tradition. What you find today is a large, gently rolling grassland with a small cluster of tourist huts and very little else built on it.
The Doodh Ganga river runs through a valley below the meadow, and forest trails lead out towards Nilnag Lake. The drive from Srinagar passes through Charar-e-Sharief, home to one of the most revered shrines in Kashmir.
Yusmarg is about the landscape rather than a list of sights. Plan to walk, ride a pony or simply sit in the meadow.
