Baisaran is a large, gently sloping meadow on the hillside above Pahalgam town, enclosed by dense pine forest with snow peaks beyond. It is often called the "mini Switzerland" of Kashmir.
There is no motor road. The meadow is reached on foot or by pony along a forest track from Pahalgam.
The track climbs through forest from the edge of Pahalgam, passing a few viewpoints over the Lidder valley on the way. At the top, the trees open onto the meadow.
