Deeper into Ladakh
For travellers who want more than the standard circuit. Frequently asked questions
Why visit Turtuk?
Turtuk is one of India's northernmost villages, opened to tourists only in 2010. Its Balti culture, apricot orchards and border setting make it a rare, memorable detour most circuits skip.
Do I need permits?
Yes — Inner Line Permits for Nubra, Turtuk and Pangong. We arrange them. Carry government photo ID; children need a birth certificate.
How is the altitude managed?
Day 1 is a rest day to acclimatise, and the extra day overall makes the pace gentler. We carry oxygen and a medical kit in the vehicle.
What is the best time to visit?
May to September, when passes and the Pangong/Turtuk routes are reliably open.
